I spent the President’s Day weekend in the mountains of Pennsylvania, based at The Station Inn in Cresson, PA. I met up with two friends and five other like-minded individuals that I had not previously met, and we spent the weekend photographing trains in the snow between Cresson and Johnstown. Our primary focus was documenting the old PRR position-light signals that will probably all be replaced before the year is out, maybe even before summer arrives. The weather never got much above freezing during the day, but we did have partly sunny skies.
Did a little bit of night photography as well.
This was the very first shot of the trip, at US Silica in Burnt Factory, VA. I saw this years ago, the only other time I had ever taken this route, and wanted to grab a shot this time.
Some shots featuring the position-light signals. First three shots are east of Altoona on the way home, the remainder are between Cresson and Summerhill. (Click to view)
More shots but without signals, all between Cresson and Summerhill. (Click to view)
Great job! You found some places I haven’t been to. That sickening shot at MO and the condition of the CPL’s tell me it is time to get my butt up there one more time.
